Dale Pappas

Dale PappasDale was raised in Elko, Nevada. He is the oldest of seven siblings. Dale joined the Marines in 1965; he saw tours of duty in the Republic of South Viet Nam, Kathmandu, Nepal, and New Dehli, India.

Dale attended the University of Nevada from 1970 to 1973. After graduation he rejoined the Marines as an officer. He left active duty in 1978 but maintained his reserve commitment, eventually retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1998.

In 1980 Dale went to work for the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, retiring to become a potter in 1997.

In 1988 Dale was working and came across a potter firing an updraft kiln. It looked like fun and he signed up for an adult education class. From 1988 to his retirement in 1997, Dale worked with several well-known potters, learning as much as he could prior to opening his own pottery in 1997.

Sally Pappas

Sally PappasSally was born in California and raised in Reno. When she met Dale, he told her he had a studio; she thought he had a studio apartment and never realized she would be doing pottery. They were married in 1998. She makes the small, more intimate pieces that are as functional as the larger everyday pots made by Dale.

Dale and his wife Sally throw many functional forms for use in the home and for storage. All items made at Peavine Pottery are dishwasher, microwave, and oven-safe. The glazes used are made by Dale and do not have any lead or barium in them.

Wood fired pottery is offered only twice a year due to firing schedules that only occur in the spring and fall.
